Welcome to gothealth?

I would like to welcome you to gothealth.info,  Here you will find a variety of information on maintaining your health. For instance, Have you ever wondered why we get achy and tired when we are sick? Well it's not the bug causing it. It's chemical signals called cytokines being released by your immune cells along with the release of a protein called interferon.

Also did you know that forty percent of cancer patients do not die of cancer. They die of malnutrition. In addition, some 67% of cancer patients die of opportunistic infections, due to a severely depressed immune system: the end result of aggressive cytotoxic treatments, and malnutrition. This is both preventable and highly treatable. Many lives would be spared if early, appropriate action were taken, in conjunction with traditional systemic treatment of cancer, and/or the new, still experimental, scientific approaches, such as immunotherapy, anti-angiogenic therapy, etc. We need strong, well primed immune systems to fight and overcome cancer.

Most conventional therapies actually wipe out the immune system, and do not address this paradox by taking measures to redress this. Adjuvant nutritional therapy in cancer can reduce the toxic side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation, increase their selectivity and killing potential, reduce and prevent secondary tumours, act as an immune stimulant, improve patient appetite, and therefore guard against the problems associated with poor appetite, treat and reverse malnutrition, improve overall chances of remission and cure, and not least, quality of life. The Bristol Cancer Centre, UK, has a data-base listing over 3,000 academic papers attesting to all this. The scientific evidence is burgeoning.

Lastly if you are waiting for your doctor's blessing to use any nutrition products, than don't get too hopeful. Asking most doctors about nutrition is like asking your foot doctor about a sore throat. Most doctors are not trained in nutrition. They are understandably reluctant to recommend anything they don't know anything about.

If you are compelled to educate a medical professional, One way to approach your doctor is to say something like this...."I am thinking of making some positive changes in my nutrition, and I would appreciate it if you would monitor my progress."
We have found that some doctors are open to accepting information, but most are not. Most of the doctors speaking out on alternative products first used them as a last resort for a family member, after all traditional therapies failed. When they have a waiting room full of anxious patients, and a HMO or PPO constantly pushing them to see more patients in a day, few have the time or patience to learn about something that comes from a non-traditional source.

Remember, ultimately the responsibilty for your health is yours. Regardless of the doctor's knowledge level, you owe it to your loved ones, and yourself to educate and provide your body with the very best nutrition.

Message of the day

Disease is a symptom of one or more body systems in distress. When you nourish and balance the systems, you give your body what it requires to resist, repair and overcome disease, and to achieve optimal health.

What? You haven't bought Bill's "Cancer-Free" book yet? Well, now's the best time.

Here are a few of the nice testimonials he has received recently about his new book.

A prominent holistic physician said:

"As a proactive physician, it's very important for me to have my patients informed and involved. When I first read Bill Henderson's book 'Cancer-Free-Your Guide to Gentle, Non-toxic Healing,' I knew I had found a tool that would serve both purposes. It's now a requirement for all my cancer patients that they read this book and practice its principles during the course of their treatment with me. Kudos, Bill."

Dr. Richard A. DiCenso, M.D., Virginia Beach, Virginia

A chiropractor said:

"Bill Henderson has done a tremendous service to the world by putting this book together...If every cancer patient in America were given this book at the time of their diagnosis, the fraudulent 'War on Cancer' would come to a swift end. Millions of lives would be saved, and the fear of cancer as an unstoppable killer would finally be put to rest...I can't recommend Mr. Henderson's book highly enough...Buy this book. Read it and become enlightened -- share it with your loved ones, avoid your own cancer diagnosis, or beat cancer naturally yourself. Bravo, Bill!"

Dr. Bradley Nelson, D.C, Utah

Thousands of cancer patients have done exactly what Dr. Nelson suggested. Here's an example:

"Dear Bill,

I am ecstatic! They can't find any more cancer after telling me I was a Stage IV - terminal last July. I talked to you in August and started your plan. I did not cheat one crumb -- I was religious about all of it. By the end of September, it was all clear...the doctor was STUNNED. Thank you, thank you, thank you -- what a blessing!"

Sandra Goldberg, Little Rock, Arkansas

When you get a bruise
Today's Health When you get a bruise, in addition to applying a cold compress (like an icepack or a bag of frozen food wrapped in a towel) to the area for about 20 minutes to reduce the swelling, you can also use natural remedies to help speed up the healing.

Bear in mind that these are all for external use, so don't drink or swallow these mixtures.

Aloe Vera: Use the fresh juice from the fleshy inner part of the leaf and apply. Aloe has many healing properties, such as preventing infection, so you can apply it to minor skin irritations and small wounds to speed up healing.

Cabbage: For facial bruises, take the large outer leaves of white cabbage, break the ridges of the leaves and dip them into very hot water. Then apply to the bruise (but make sure they're not scalding hot as you put them on your face).

Calendula: To make a salve, boil one ounce of dried calendula flowers or leaves (or 1/4 teaspoon of fresh juice from the herb) with one ounce of lard. Once the mixture has cooled, apply it to the bruise. This mixture is also good for sprains, pulled muscles, sores and boils.

Fenugreek: To make a poultice, put 1/2 ounce of crushed fenugreek seeds in a small cloth bag and boil it in water for a few minutes. Remove the bag and apply the "tea water" to the area. Make it as hot as you can stand it (but make sure it's not scalding the skin).

Garden Thyme: Put the green plant parts in water and boil them for three to four minutes. Cover the pot and leave it for another two to three minutes. Strain the mixture, and add the decoction to your bath water. Soak in it as you would normally. Onion: Apply it raw, directly to the bruise.

St. John's Wort: Put 10 to 15 drops of St. John's Wort Oil in water and apply the mixture to the area.

CHOLINE
Choline (pronounced "koleen") is part of the B vitamin complex

The body uses choline to make a neurotransmitter that facilitates memory storage and muscle control Helps prevent fatigue and insomnia Helps prevent the build up of fats in the liver Helps maintain healthy cell membranes Choline deficiency has been associated with poor kidney function, memory loss, fatigue, and insomnia, while extreme cases of deficiency may contribute to anemia, high blood pressure, heart disease, and kidney failure.

The best source of choline is egg yolks. And if you've heard that eggs are bad for you, don't believe a word of it. Choline is just one of many excellent nutrients eggs deliver. Other good choline sources include organ meats, legumes, milk, cauliflower, and flax seeds.

Unfortunately, most Americans aren't getting nearly enough choline. According to a report from Ivanhoe Newswire, average choline intake in the U.S. is about 315 mg, but the RDA for women is 425 mg, and 550 mg for men. Many multivitamins contain choline, but usually not enough to come close to the RDA.

This low intake could pose serious problems for heart health because choline deficiency can also cause a deficiency of folic acid. Folic acid is essential for managing homocysteine, an amino acid that promotes plaque buildup on blood vessel walls. A recent study from Harvard Medical School shows that choline may also be effective in managing homocysteine.

Researchers used dietary data and blood samples gathered from more than 1,900 middle-aged subjects to determine intake of choline and betaine, a nutrient in spinach, broccoli and beets.

The Harvard team found that subjects with the highest intake of choline had nearly 10 percent lower total homocysteine compared to subjects with the lowest choline intake. When highest and lowest betaine levels were included in the analysis, homocysteine levels dropped even lower among subjects in the highest intake group. Researchers also found that choline and betaine intake reduced homocysteine even when intakes of folate and other B vitamins were low.

Grass Fed Beef (Don't believe it)
Today's Health There are two reasons we're seeing so many products with the promise "zero trans-fats" printed on the labels: 1) Trans-fats are very unhealthy, and 2) The FDA now allows any product that contains less than 0.5 grams of trans-fats per serving to make the "zero" claim. That's right: 0.499999999999 = zero, according to the math geniuses at the FDA. Eat a couple of 0.49 servings and your zero trans-fat intake quickly stops being zero.

Apparently the folks over at the U.S. Department of Agriculture got wind of the trans-fat scam and figured they'd pull the same trick.

With more and more people realizing that grassfed cows produce far more nutritious and safer meat, the USDA has proposed a new rule for using the word "grassfed" on meat products. Here's how Dr. Patricia Whisnant, president of the American Grassfed Association (AGA) describes the doubletalk: "The USDA proposal would allow animals to be kept in confinement, fed harvested forage, corn silage and other grains that have not been separated from their stalks. If this proposed claim passes into regulation you could see feedlot beef fed antibiotics, hormones and legally be labeled grassfed."

A recent New York Times report on the USDA proposal noted that agency officials asked the AGA for input on the new rule. The AGA response defined a grassfed animal as one that's fed in pastures (except in emergencies) and is not given antibiotics or growth hormones.

I wonder what part of "fed in pastures" the USDA guys didn't understand.

What's really infuriating is WHY the animals need antibiotics. This past June, when Eric Schlosser, the author of "Fast Food Nation," addressed an AGA conference, he explained that a few decades ago the government came up with a plan for surplus corn. They convinced ranchers and farmers to feed the corn to cows. Great idea! Just one little problem.

As quoted in the Denver Post, Mr. Schlosser continued: "Cows don't normally eat corn. They can't digest it. So we had to feed them antibiotics because they were using up valuable energy to process corn, resulting in weakened immune systems."

Incredible! Years ago some government bureaucrats solved an excess corn problem, and in the process transformed the beef supply. Which, in turn, also transformed nutrition for millions of people over most of the 20th Century, lowering overall intake of omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid, while increasing antibiotic intake.

And NOW some government bureaucrats want to redefine "grassfed" to dupe consumers into believing we're getting the kind of nutrition we should have been getting all along!

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE: SYNTHETIC OR REAL THC
Is it even the least bit conceivable that an herb would have no medicinal value while a synthetic drug developed from the active ingredient of that herb WOULD have medicinal value? Does that compute? No. But on planet FDA it all makes perfect sense.

You might wonder what they've been smoking over there at the FDA, especially because the active ingredient I'm referring to is tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, the chemical in marijuana that...well, you know what it does.

Before we go any further let me make it clear that I'm not opening a debate about whether or not marijuana should be legalized. Nor am I promoting marijuana usage in any way. Marijuana is a controlled substance. That's the law of the land. Period.

But in this case, FDA officials have completely tossed out the laws of logic. And in the process they've made it shamelessly clear that when you have federal regulatory powers you can bend reality into any shape you please

We'll start in 1999 when a committee at the Institute of Medicine (a branch of the National Academy of Sciences) reviewed a body of research and concluded that marijuana is "moderately well suited" for relieving the nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy and for treating AIDS wasting by stimulating the appetite.

In response, some states legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes, but the Supreme Court handed down a decision last year that overruled those laws. The result: We now have a huge gray area where enforcement of the law is unpredictable and the moral questions about how to treat people in pain have been officially dismissed.

That brings us up to this past April when the FDA announced that the medical use of marijuana is not supported by research (in obvious contradiction to the Institute of Medicine report). The New York Times reported that the FDA statement was a response to "numerous inquiries from Capitol Hill."

Numerous "inquiries"? Translation: Political pressure produced the statement.

Here's where it gets infuriating.

Last month the headline of an article over at Associated Press read: "Synthetic Marijuana Returning to Market."

Almost one month to the day after the FDA announced that marijuana had no medicinal value, the FDA gave approval to Valeant Pharmaceuticals International to resume selling Cesamet; a prescription drug that treats nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy. The active ingredient: synthetic THC.

So it has no medicinal benefits when you grow it in your own basement, but when a drug company develops it in a lab and stuffs it in a bottle with a wad of cotton, it's a medical marvel.

Lyme Disease
Today's Health The bacterium that causes Lyme disease sounds like a bio-villain in a science fiction movie: It's a spirochete form (a spiral shape that aggressively embeds in muscles, tendons and even the heart and brain), and it's also pleomorphic, meaning it can change shape, making it hard for the immune system to detect it.

This dastardly creature prompts symptoms - such as fever and lack of energy - that are often mistaken for the flu. Other symptoms include unusual joint and muscle pain, stiff neck, confusion, severe headaches and heart palpitations.

Antibiotics provide the standard treatment for Lyme disease. And as always when antibiotics are used, acidophilus and other probiotics are helpful in keeping the beneficial gut flora in the intestines alive. Also, because the immune system is seriously stressed by Lyme, nutrients that enhance immune system function are very important. And sugar intake should be avoided for two reasons: 1) sugar impairs the immune system, and 2) Lyme disease spirochetes thrive on sugar.

A controversial natural treatment for Lyme disease calls for injections of bee venom. Some anecdotal evidence indicates this regimen may be effective, but according to an excellent article about Lyme disease by D.J. Fletcher and Tom Klaber (available on Dr. Joseph Mercola's web site), physicians who deviate from the established protocols for Lyme care apparently put themselves at risk for investigation by state licensing agencies.

In any case, if Lyme disease symptoms appear, immediate medical care is needed. Some Lyme patients may fight their infection for months or even years if the bacterium isn't addressed in the early stages.

The Real Dangers of Soda
Today's Health Traces of the cancer-causing chemical benzene have been found in French and British soft drinks, at levels up to eight times those allowed in drinking water.

This follows on the heels of similar results for drinks tested in the United States. It has been known for 15 years that sodium benzoate, a preservative, can produce benzene when mixed with ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Many are concerned that the two chemicals are still being mixed together in many drinks. Although no more than one part per billion of benzene is allowed in drinking water in Britain, there are no legal restrictions on the amount present in soft drinks.

Benzene is associated with leukemia and other cancers of the blood. It is generally found in pollutants such as car exhaust fumes.

How many sodas have you had today? How about your kids? The average American drinks an estimated 56 gallons of soft drinks each year, but before you grab that next can of soda, consider this: one can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine, and is loaded with artificial food colors and sulphites. This is an alarming amount of sugar, calories and harmful additives in a product that has absolutely no nutritional value. Plus, studies have linked soda to osteoporosis, obesity, tooth decay and heart disease. Despite this, soda accounts for more than one-quarter of all drinks consumed in the United States.

Teenagers and children, who many soft drinks are marketed toward, are among the largest consumers. In the past 10 years, soft drink consumption among children has almost doubled in the United States. Teenage boys now drink, on average, three or more cans of soda per day, and 10 percent drink seven or more cans a day. The average for teenage girls is more than two cans a day, and 10 percent drink more than five cans a day.

While these numbers may sound high, they’re not surprising considering that most school hallways are lined with vending machines that sell, of course, soft drinks. It’s not uncommon for schools to make marketing deals with leading soft drink companies such as Coca-Cola from which they receive commissions--based on a percentage of sales at each school--and sometimes a lump-sum payment.

The revenues are used for various academic and after-school activities, but what activity could be worth devastating the students’ health, which is exactly what consuming all that soda is doing? Getting rid of vending machines in schools--or replacing their contents with pure water and healthy snacks--could make a big difference, as vending machines can increase the consumption of sweetened beverages by up to 50 or more cans of soda per student per year.

Let’s take a look at some of the major components of a can of soda:

Phosphoric Acid: May interfere with the body's ability to use calcium, which can lead to osteoporosis or softening of the teeth and bones. Phosphoric acid also neutralizes the hydrochloric acid in your stomach, which can interfere with digestion, making it difficult to utilize nutrients.

Sugar: Soft drink manufacturers are the largest single user of refined sugar in the United States. It is a proven fact that sugar increases insulin levels, which can lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, premature aging and many more negative side effects. Most sodas include over 100 percent of the RDA of sugar.

Aspartame: This chemical is used as a sugar substitute in diet soda. There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption including brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes, emotional disorders and epilispsy/seizures. Further, when aspartame is stored for long periods of time or kept in warm areas it changes to methanol, an alcohol that converts to formaldehyde and formic acid, which are known carcinogens.

Caffeine: Caffeinated drinks cause jitters, insomnia, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, elevated blood cholesterol levels, vitamin and mineral depletion, breast lumps, birth defects, and perhaps some forms of cancer.

Tap Water: I recommend that everyone avoid drinking tap water because it can carry any number of chemicals including chlorine, trihalomethanes, lead, cadmium, and various organic pollutants. Tap water is the main ingredient in bottled soft drinks.

Soda is one of the main reasons, nutritionally speaking, why many people suffer health problems. Aside from the negative effects of the soda itself, drinking a lot of soda is likely to leave you with little appetite for vegetables, protein and other food that your body needs. If you are still drinking soda, stopping the habit is an easy way to improve your health. Pure water is a much better choice. If you must drink a carbonated beverage, try sparkling mineral water.

Overactive Bladder
Today's Health Many trips to the bathroom have been eliminated by parsley. Make a tea by rinsing a bunch (about 1" across) and removing the bulk of the stems, boiling for a while and straining, leaving about 2 quarts of tea to drink.

"The boiled parsley is compressed to remove the liquid, diced somewhat, placed on some whole wheat bread with a sprinkle of salt. You will find great improvements in urine flow and not needing to make those night time trips to the bathroom.

For the most part, This will clear up urinary tract infections better than antibiotics in most people. How nice to sleep thru the night and how nice to forgo an unnecessary round of antibiotics.

Pistachios and sesame seeds richest source of PhytoSterols
Help for Cell Miscommunication Pistachios and sesame seeds contain more cholesterol-reducing compounds than most other nuts and seeds, according to an extensive study.

“Given the many possible mechanisms of action of phytosterols on cholesterol metabolism, it is important to have quantitative estimates of total phytosterol content,” reported the team of researchers from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Previous studies have shown that nuts and seeds are a rich source of phytosterols, plant sterols with a chemical structure very similar to cholesterol. When present in sufficient amounts, these compounds are believed to reduce blood cholesterol, enhance the immune system and decrease the risk of certain cancers.

The study, published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (Vol 53, pp. 9436-9445), is the most comprehensive analysis of nut and seed varieties to date. Twenty-seven different products, including American peanut butter, were evaluated and it was found that sesame seeds and wheat germ contained the highest concentration of phytosterols with over 400 mg per 100 g.

The list of products most commonly associated as snack foods was led by pistachio nuts with 279 mg of phytosterols per 100 g, closely followed by sunflower seed kernels (270 mg per 100 g). The lowest phytosterol content was found in Brazil nuts and English walnuts (95 and 113 mg per 100 g).

Smooth peanut butter contained, on average, a higher concentration of phytosterols than the chunky variety, 135 versus 132 mg per 100 g. Beta-sitosterol was the main phytosterol identified for all nut and seed samples.

Conducted as part of the USDA’s National Food and Nutrient Analysis Program, the authors say the study is important for anyone involved in the formulation of research diets, and development of dietary recommendations related to the health impact of phytosterols.

Epidemiologists and clinical nutritionists can also draw on the new research to achieve greater accuracy and reduce errors during the multivariate correction of food surveys.

While the research was long overdue, it is uncertain how this will affect the current sterol market. Global demand for PhytoSterols is estimated to exceed 10,000 tons by 2008, giving a potential market value of $200 to $250 million. Most plant sterols are currently extracted from soybean, corn, and tall (pine tree) oil.

USES OF DRYER SHEETS
Today's Health This a very good idea for a lot of things and it works !!!!

A mail carrier said that the US Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow jackets away. Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer.

I use it when I am working outside. It really works. The yellow jackets just veer around you. And all this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer!

It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice & spread them around foundation areas, or in trailers, cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.

Repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

Eliminates static electricity from your television (or computer) screen. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling.

Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

Freshen the air in your home. Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.

Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.

Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.

Freshen the air in your car. Place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.

Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The antistatic agent apparently weakens the bond between the food.

Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.

Collect cat or dog hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.

Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.

Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.

Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.

Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.

Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. Keeps them smelling fresh
